About the FMHS Orchestra Program

The Flower Mound High School Orchestra Program began in 1999 when Flower Mound High School opened its doors for the first time. The program has grown to more than 140 members in three performing ensembles. The FMHS Orchestra program is supported with three middle school orchestra programs, Forestwood MS, McKamy MS, and Shadowridge MS, orchestra students being their studies in the sixth grade with homogeneous classes, moving into performing ensembles in the seventh and eighth grades. Many FMHS Orchestra students participate in TMEA All State Orchestras, TMEA Region 24 Orchestras, UIL Solo and Ensemble and LISD Solo and Ensemble, earning numerous honors. The lists of achievements by all of the ensembles of the FMHS Orchestra Program are impressive. Thirteen straight years of Sweepstakes at UIL Concert & Sightreading and many “Best in Class”, “Overall Outstanding in Class” at Spring Festivals. The FMHS Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra have been named a finalist in the TMEA Honor Orchestra Competitions. The FMHS Fine Arts Ensembles have been awarded the Grammy Foundation Gold Signature School Award in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011 and in 2012.. This award signifies that FMHS was among the top fine arts schools in the country. In 2007 and in 2013, the Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic: An International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

The growth and success of the Flower Mound High School Orchestra program comes from sustaining support from school and district administration, strong middle school orchestra programs, private teachers, dedicated student musicians and incredibly supportive orchestra parents
